High School Transformation Project
- The High School Transformation Project (HSTP) is an urban school reform project the Education Department began in the summer of 2006 with the Chicago Public Schools to improve science education.
Partnering with the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), the Education Department is working with CPS high schools to implement inquiry-based biology, chemistry, and physics curricula. Each of the new curricula includes links to Field Museum resources, such as award-winning exhibitions, programs, on-line Field Museum resources, and Harris Educational Loan Center materials that enhance classroom learning. The IIT/Field Museum team will also deliver professional development. The Field Museum will host several of these professional development days, focusing on the Museum collections and meeting Field Museum scientists through behind-the-scenes opportunities; training on focused field trips; how to use exhibitions to teach biology, chemistry, and physics concepts; and the use of Harris Educational Loan Center materials in the classroom. The Museum offers an incredible array of resources that can be used by the IDS teachers to not only educate, but also to inspire.
